Here is my problem:

I have setup a WDS server on a Windows 2008R2 server. I have been able to deploy servers but all my attempt to join computers to the domain failed.

I think the reason is that i have problem with my DHCP scope. The dhcp server is set locally on my WDS server. The WDS server has two NICs. The first one is configured on my AD domain and i have shared this network connection. The second NIC is configured on my deployment VLAN and thats were the DHCP server is listening.

The weird thing is that when i install the DHCP server i cannot manage it at all. The server shows up with a name like hostname.mshome.net i can restart it but i cannot configure the scope at all. So my clients get a dhcp address, i can deploy images but i cannot configure the scope so they can get a valid default gateway, hence they cant talk with any DC and any attempt to join the domain fails.

I tried reinstalling DHCP even though i can give the default gateway during role installation, the configuration fails.

Why this mshome.net domain?

DHCP Server: Installation succeeded with errors

: Attempt to configure DHCP Server failed with error code 0x80074E54. The scope parameters are incorrect. Either the scope already exists or its subnet address and mask is inconsistent with the subnet address and mask of an existing scope.

Question: Q: mshome.net taking over DNS settings on Airport

Hey all,
I have a network set up with Windows computers only via an Ethernet and using a D-Link 300 router with wireless available. However, sometimes (seemingly randomly) when I connect to the network wirelessly through my Macbook Pro’s Airport, the internet does not work. The reason is that for some reason my DNS server changes from nsw.bigpond.net.au to mshome.net, and I am sure that I have connected to the server because I can access my router + shared folders.

How can I stop my Airport from picking up mshome.net? I have tried doing an ipconfig /renew on both of the Windows computers and they both come up with the correct DNS themselves.

Macbook Pro 15″, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

The problem is almost certainly that there are two DHCP servers running on your network, and one is providing the bigpond DNS server address and one the mshome.net address.

The reason it’s somewhat random is that when there are multiple DHCP servers running, it’s a pure race condition as to which DHCP server responds to your requests for an IP address first, and it’s that DHCP server that provides your DNS information.

What does your connection to the Internet look like?

For example, if your wired network shares a switch with a cable modem and the D-Link is connected to the same switch, you’d get the «correct» IP address if your cable modem responded to your DHCP request first, and the «incorrect» information if your D-Link did.

Note it could also be one of your Windows PCs, if any of them inadvertently have Internet Connection Sharing turned on.

If you Google «mshome.net» you’ll find that the latter is quite common.

Haha I hope that makes sense. The Internet goes into the D-Link router, which then connects wirelessly to MBP and via ethernet to both a windows computer and switch. The switch is then connected to various rooms in the house but at the moment only a single computer is attached to the switch.
