«illegal packet received, terminating connection»
My husband runs a LAN server from his desktop. We played together without incident until updating to 1.7.11. Now I crash constantly with the error «illegal packet received, terminating connection». It appears to happen at random intervals with no clear cause. I can play on the server anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes before crashing. We tried changing the forge version, still crashed. We tried going back to the mod version 1.7.10 and I am still crashing with this error.

This error sounds like a server kick message. When you say crash, do you mean the game crashes for either of you AND closes completely, or do you mean you get kicked off the server but remain in the game menu?
As it’s a little unclear at the moment, I would suggest doing this:
When the crash happens again, go to the modpack’s folder directory and into the crash-reports folder, and then upload it on pastebin or a similar website and post the link here. As well as that, go to the logs folder and find latest.log and upload it on pastebin as well.

I would also like to know how to solve this issue, I dont think it’s a crash as all it does (for me at least) is tells me the message then takes me back to the multiplayer menu. There is also no crash report log in the respective folder. I’ve tried updating to the latest version of ATM6, made sure me and my friend have all the mods installed properly, both having the same ATM6 version, forge version and minecraft version, even turning «allow cheats» on when he starts up the LAN server doesn’t help. As the poster said the kick will happen randomly and for me it will happen to me when i’m doing the most normal things like; mining, picking up normal things like my potion station, opening up my inventory, even just running or standing still will just kick me. It’s quite the ordeal as the problem has become more persistent lately and there is literally no fix i can find online. Me and my friend were playing on version 1.7.7 first then decided to change to the latest version which is now 1.7.11 and yet it happens, so if there is a fix out there I would really like to know if there is anyone out there that knows a solution as it would help me and the poster and anyone who might have similar issues later.
I’ve also uploaded a latest.log, hope this helps with trying to fix the issue.

Any news on this? Also having this issue on a local network and we’ve been unable to find any specific cause.

The following error occurs when people are trying to join our lobby (first they get sent to a Login Server, that server then sends them to the lobby):
In the lobbies people get kicked for «Connection reset by peer».
Waterfall version git:Waterfall-Bootstrap:1.13-SNAPSHOT:adc5dcd:223 by md_5
This is a pretty important issue, as hundreds of players encounter this issue, making them not able to join nor play.

You have a plugin on your actual servers which is causing invalid data to be sent
dieterblancke commented Sep 19, 2018
Then I do wonder how it suddenly happened, because the only thing that changed is Waterfall being updated.
I assume it must be a plugin like ProtocolSupport then.
dieterblancke commented Sep 20, 2018 •
@electronicboy I do think it is something related with Waterfall, as switching back to the regular (md_5) BungeeCord fixed this issue.
(this without any other changes done)
electronicboy commented Sep 20, 2018
This exact issue has been duplicated on bungeecords’ issue tracker too, this is definitely not a waterfall specific issue, and having been through our patches, we make no changes that would impact this directly, knowing the server and the proxy code, this does leave me at some level of confusion;
Do you have any plugins on the proxy itself? if you do, could you test if this has any changes?
Do you have any plugins on the server itself, such as protocol hacks or plugins which use ProtocolLib? if so, could you test if affected users are able to connect to a dev server or something with those plugins, and if removing them solves the issue?
I have a few theories, but working with both bungee and paper, I cannot see the potential for this to arise outside of plugin interaction
dieterblancke commented Sep 20, 2018 •
Let me say it different, as reading back I didn’t explain it properly.
The error only occurs on Waterfall (did not test Travertine nor Hexagon) while on BungeeCord it does not show.
However, players are still having the connection issue, it seems to mostly happen when they join our Lobbies having a considerably bad internet connection.
Fri Jun 10 21:46:52 2016 TLS_ERROR: BIO read tls_read_plaintext error: error:14094418:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:tlsv1 alert unknown ca: error:140940E5:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:ssl handshake failure
