Today we’re very excited to introduce a brand new feature to the server, Hypixel SMP! Create your own vanilla 1.16 Minecraft server and play with friends at the push of a button with no account needed.

What is Hypixel SMP?
Minecraft SMP (Survival Multi-Player) has been around since the early days of Minecraft, but it’s always felt like more work than it should be to create a small server for yourself and some friends. With this in mind, we wanted to make Hypixel SMP a quick and easy experience to play vanilla Minecraft with friends without needing to leave the server.
How to create an SMP?
This project uses a lot of new technology, and due to that, we need to be slower at opening up compared to past projects and games. Starting today, MVP++ players can register their interest and join the access queue to be able to create a server, this can be done via the /smp command or selecting the SMP icon in the Game Menu. We don’t have any estimates for how long you will need to wait to create an SMP. Be rest assured though, as soon as you have access, we’ll let you know via an in-game message.
Once you have access, you’ll be able to create your very own server to play with friends! After creating your server, you can invite up to 9 other players to your server, these players do not need to meet any requirements. After this, any players who are a member of your server can join at any time via the command or Game Menu.
Once you have joined your SMP server, you will be able to access an easy-to-use menu for modifying settings such as difficulty, PVP, gamerules, and more. You can access this using the /settings command on your server.
We want to be clear that this is early access. There may be some hiccups as we scale and find any bugs in the system, so over the next weeks/months, we’ll be working hard to expand capacity as required and open up to as many players as possible.
Beyond that, we’d like to take SMP further by allowing players to enable features on their servers to enhance the gameplay and make their own experience. Ranging from small QoL changes all the way to custom survival gamemodes!
Why an Access Queue?
We know some people might be a little confused as to the reason for the access queue on top of the MVP++ requirement at this time. This is to allow us to manually manage the flow of servers being created and active servers running. We want to avoid an experience where players have a server, but can’t play due to there not being any room to start up their server. Over time, we will allow more players to create servers and we also aim to remove the queue once possible.
Will this cause a performance impact for the rest of the server?
SMP has been designed from the very beginning to be independent of the rest of the server. It runs its own services and even runs on its own hardware, so there will be zero impact on the performance of the server.
Will you support future Minecraft versions?
Our goal will be to support all future versions as soon as possible after release. Bear in mind this could be slightly longer than the rest of the server, but we’ll always add support for new versions as soon as we can.
What commands do I have access to?
You can access most of the commands from the vanilla server. As the owner, this also includes «op» commands such as /gamemode, /scoreboard, etc.
What happens to my server if my MVP++ expires?
At this time you only require MVP++ to join the access queue and create your server. Once the server is created any member or the owner can start and join the server, regardless of rank.
How long will the access queue take?
We’ve seen a higher than expected uptake in the number of players interested in joining the closed beta. Due to current capacity, we can only allow more players to create servers when there is room to have those servers running. Until we scale the hardware further it may take a while for you to gain access. We heavily recommend not purchasing the MVP++ rank only for SMP access as we can not guarantee access at this time.
Will worlds ever be reset?
We have zero intentions to reset worlds, even going out of beta in the future. However, this is an early beta and while we will do everything in our power to prevent worlds from being lost it’s not impossible.
How many players can I have on an SMP?
Currently, we limit servers to 10 players online at a time, you can however invite up to 19 members (20 total including the owner) to be able to play. In the future, we will explore solutions to potentially increase these limits.

Creating a SMP World:
MVP++ players can create an SMP by requesting a SMP world and joining a queue. Depending on how high the demand is for the queue, it can take a few minutes up until a few days until you receive the world. It is a randomly generated Minecraft seed on the latest version of Minecraft. The owner will also be asked to make a name for the SMP. This can be changed in the /smp menu. Once the world is created, the world can be joined by anyone part of the SMP. It may take a few minutes to start the server if it’s unloaded.
Inviting Friends:
Now that the world is created, the owner can type /members and click the sign to invite friends listed on the owner’s friends list. The player can accept the invite from any version of Minecraft but must be joined on 1.16.4 or 1.16.5 in order to join the actual world. Only the creator of the SMP is allowed to invite others. There can be 20 players on an SMP, but only a maximum of 10 can be in the world at once. More recently, a privacy setting was added. If a player removes the privacy for SMP invites, anyone can invite this player to a SMP. You can also choose to turn off all invites for SMPs in the privacy menu.
to grant permissions to other trusted players. Players who are opped can use /settings to edit certain aspects of the SMP, as well as Vanilla Minecraft commands. The owner can also de-op players by typing /deop
That’s about it for managing SMPs at the moment. I hope this forum thread helps. Below are a few screenshots that were sent to me of some of the SMP menus:

Currently, creating an SMP is only for those ranked MVP++, but will be available to all in the future. Anyone can join an SMP if invited.
When creating an SMP, you will want to run /smp (while on 1.16) in the lobby. You will be greeted with this menu:
NOTE: Ignore the grass & dirt block, they are my current SMPs
Once greeted by this menu, you will want to press the paper on the right of the «close menu» button. After doing this, you will be placed in a queue. Once you are first, you will be greeted by a green chat message notifying you that you can create the SMP!
You will want to head to the SMP creation screen again, and press the paper
Then this menu will appear:
The nametag is server name (e.g. «Quacky’s SMP);
The sign is the world seed (e.g. 98973658693);
The eye of ender is what type of world (e.g. normal, amplified etc.);
The enchanted gapple is hardcore mode, and can be enabled and disabled!
Congratulations, you have created your first SMP!
to invite, or type /invite and a screen will come up, in which you insert your friend’s IGN!
To view concurrent invites, type /invites and you can cancel them, or just view them!
To view concurrent members, type /members and you can kick/view all members that have accepted the SMP invite.
This section will work slightly differently. Each command will have a paragraph explaining and breaking down each part so players can edit the command as they wish.
/team
The /team command can be confusing or simple. Depends what you are doing. The team command allows players to be on the same «team», and you can enable certain things in them. For example, you can enable friendly fire, or disable it. You could also change the color of someone’s name. For teams to work, you need to go to settings (/cp) and turn off rank prefixes! OP’ed player can modify teams of any players. For more info visit this https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Commands/team
/fill
This command can be used to fill a selected region with a selected block. E.g. filling a large region with oak planks. Because this command would take years to explain, visit this
Please put suggestions in the comments, corrections or feedback!
Thanks!

faq about hypixel smp to solve all(most) of yo problems
q: can i hack on hypixel smp?
a: why would you even ask that lmao? hypixel smps are hosted by hypixel and hypixel has watchdog and does not allow hacks of any sort, so no, you will most likely get banned.
p.s it’s true that the watchdog moderation in hypixel smps are lesser but that does not under any circumstance mean that you won’t get banned for hacking so i don’t condone trying that
q: i want to make an anarchy server, but hypixel smp doesn’t allow hacks. what do i do?
a: simple. don’t do it on hypixel. go to this website to easily host a server for free (with no catches). it even allows mods (if you’re using forge) and plugins. you can’t get banned on there because it’s your server, so you can do pretty much whatever you want on it. literally just click a few buttons and you’ve created your very own server.
p.s this is not an ad, i just highly recommend aternos because it’s a very good minecraft server hoster. 10/10
q: how long does it take to queue to create an smp?
a: since so many people have created smps, it will take longer depending on how many are online at the time. according to what i’ve seen, it can take hours, and maybe even a day/days to get your smp created + queued, so be patient. you’ll be slaying the ender dragon in no time.
p.s (bit of a flex so please skip if you don’t want to hear it) since i queued right when the update came out, it was fully queued and ready to be created in 2 minutes. heheheh.
q: can i macro on hypixel smp?
a: macroing is technically a form of hacking(?) so i assume not
p.s fun little tip: if it’s not allowed on hypixel, it is not allowed on hypixel smp. hypixel hosts the smps people create, you know. i thought people would have common sense and know that by now lmao
q: it said i could create my smp, but it started to queue again.
a: this is a simple bug, i’m sure the staff will get on it soon
q: [insert any kind of bug in hypixel smp]
a: hopefully staff will fix it, although from experience they’re relatively slow at it (not saying this in a hateful/negative way!) so just give it some time
q: how do i get more than 10 players?
a: whenever someone wants to join, kick an old member from the smp, they will not lose anything! use the /team function to differentiate kicked and non-kicked members
q: can i swear?
a: there is 0 chat filter, server-wide muted players are also able to chat
q: how do i get command blocks?
a: you can, technically, use the /give command, but sadly, command blocks do not work as of now
q: how do i get custom ranks?
a: turn off «rank prefixes» in /cp, and use /teams, use this thread
q: how do i do this?
a: for name colors: /team add (name), /team modify (name) color (color)
for prefixes: /team modify (name) prefix «prefix»
for scoreboard: /scoreboard objectives add score xp (title), /scoreboard objectives setdisplay sidebar score
for custom font: http://megacooltext.com/fun-fonts-generator/
aaaand that’s it for now. if you have any kind of question/concern about hypixel smps, please comment it down below and i will try my best to answer it.
also, if i’ve made a mistake, please correct me so i can fix it and word it better.
