Впрочем, и у нас в определенных кругах «гиками» называют людей, помешанных на компьютерной технике и отличающихся при этом неприглядным внешним видом, странноватыми привычками, неумением вести себя в обществе. Видя перед собой только экран монитора, «гики» частенько забывают принимать душ, бриться, менять одежду. Слово «geek» всегда имело негативный оттенок: когда-то так называли дурачков, простоватых глупцов. В 20-е годы ХХ века «гиками» стали балаганные «дикари», на потеху публике откусывающие головы змеям и курицам, а в 70-х оно приобрело современное значение – люди, которые настолько увлечены какими-то серьезными делами (в частности, компьютерами), что забывают следить за собой.

Строго говоря, современный диски давно уже не умирают «медленной» смертью. Технологии не те. Да, продолжают вылетать, но как-то сразу и необратимо. А вот чтоб медленно, да ещё и с бэд-секторами, такого я давно не видел
