Рассвет и упадок серии Medal of Honor
Пожалуй, только люди, которые далеки от игровой индустрии никогда не слышали про серию шутеров от первого лица под названием Medal of Honor. Вы могли не играть ни в одну из частей франшизы, но однозначно где-то натыкались на информацию о ней и в общих чертах можете представить, о чем были проекты с громким заголовком «Медаль за отвагу».
В этой статье мы не будем углубляться в историю серии и подробно расписывать, о чем каждая из частей, а лишь расскажем о том, как Medal of Honor быстро поднялась на Олимп славы военных боевиков и благодаря силам Electronic Arts резко спикировала прямиком в пучину забытья. Так что усаживайтесь поудобнее, будет интересно.
Звезда родилась
Первая игра серии вышла еще в 1999 году, и на тот момент Electronic Arts ни на что не жалела денег. Разработку доверили перспективной студии DreamWorks Interactive и даже заручились поддержкой самого Стивена Спилберга, который выступил продюсером проекта. Также популярный режиссер привлек к созданию игры Дэйла Дая, который консультировал создателей фильма «Спасти рядового Райана» в качестве военного эксперта. С такой мощной командой специалистов дебютная игра серии Medal of Honor была обречена на успех. И к счастью, именно так и случилось.
С того момента, как Medal of Honor прогремела на просторах игровой индустрии, боссы EA быстро смекнули, что у них наконец-то появилась «дойная корова», которая будет кормить их еще много лет.
Тем не менее конвейер EA под названием Medal of Honor работал куда лучше и, по сути, именно эта франшиза породила моду на создание ежегодных частей для одной серии игр. Так что если вы думали, что Activision была первой, кто додумался до этой схемы и продолжает доить бедных геймеров и по сей день, то вы ошибаетесь.
По сути, период с 1999 по 2006 год и можно назвать рассветом Medal of Honor. В этот период EA начинает сотрудничать сразу с тремя студиями, чтобы каждая из них поочередно создавала качественный продукт. Работать только с DreamWorks Interactive попросту стало невыгодно, потому что они не успевали ежегодно делать новую часть на нужном уровне качества, который по каким-то причинам устанавливали не создатели оригинала, а боссы EA. Они прекрасно понимали, что одновременно должны и удержать аудиторию, которая обожает франшизу, и сделать все возможное, чтобы не дать Call of Duty стать популярной.
Да, о творении Infinity Ward до выхода Modern Warfare в 2007 году мало кто говорил, но продажи у серии были, а EA славится своей жадностью и любовью к играм сервисам (привет FIFA, NHL, Star Wars: Battlefront, Battlefield и другие!). Именно поэтому они делали все возможное, чтобы их конвейер работал исправно и тупо не давал игрокам отвлекаться на сторонние серии в военном сеттинге. Но в какой-то момент что-то пошло не так, и первое «ранение» Medal of Honor получает именно в 2007 году.
Есть пробитие!
Десятая по счету игра серии под названием Medal of Honor: Vanguard по каким-то причинам стала самым настоящим провалом. Неизвестно, как так получилось, но многие эксперты сходятся во мнении, что виной всему желание EA выпустить проект на двух совершенно разных по своим возможностям консолях. Дело в том, что Medal of Honor: Vanguard выходила одновременно на еще достаточно мощной и популярной на тот момент PlayStation 2 и уже заметно устаревшей Nintendo Wii. В итоге проект сразу же начали поливать грязью из-за убогой графики, короткой сюжетной кампании и обилия багов.
Весь тот прежний пафос, который делал серию эталонным военным боевиком, куда-то улетучился, и многие фанаты даже не могли поверить, что Vanguard – это продолжение их любимой франшизы. Если что, то до 2007 года у Medal of Honor была настолько безупречная репутация, что ее ежегодно покупали миллионы геймеров. Во многом это еще заслуга военной тематики, которая была обильно приправлена патриотизмом, и жители США делали все возможное, чтобы заполучить новую игру серии в день релиза. Они считали это своим долгом, но ровно до выхода Vanguard. Затем примерно через 6 месяцев на прилавках магазинов появляется новая часть Medal of Honor с подзаголовком Airborne.
Вернемся к Airborne, которая, по сути, до сих пор считается лучшей частью франшизы из тех, что выходили за все время ее существования. Игроки, конечно, были в ярости, когда после покупки Vanguard обнаружили, что в Airborne и графика на уровне консолей тех времен, и геймплей довольно интересный, и багов нет, а еще в нее завезли мультиплеер на 12 человек. Тем не менее даже это не помогло серии оклематься после травмы под названием Vanguard.
Продажи всех трех частей Medal of Honor в 2007 году с трудом добрались до приемлемых показателей прошлых лет. На тот момент геймеры со всего мира уже начали обмазываться Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare и получали от этого невероятное удовольствие. Из-за провала MoH игроки наконец-то рассмотрели в аркадном военном шутере что-то хорошее, да и переход от Второй мировой войны к баталиям в современном мире стал для Call of Duty и жанра военных боевиков в целом глотком свежего воздуха. EA ставит свою самую прибыльную франшизу на паузу на целых 3 года, а в это время престол главного шутера от первого лица занимает Бобби Котик со своей Call of Duty.
What does it mean in France when you ‘declare on your honour’?

A déclaration sur l’honneur literally translates into English as a ‘declaration on one’s honour’ but that phrase sounds archaic in English, bringing to mind men in curly wigs fighting duels over insults to their honour.
A better translation of déclaration sur l’honneur is a ‘sworn statement’ or an ‘affidavit’ and these declarations have a legal standing in France, complete with sanctions for people who make false declarations.
Essentially this is a document that you sign stating that a certain thing is true – some official forms are déclarations sur l’honneur or attestations sur l’honneur and you can also write your own declaration in certain circumstances, in which case the document must contain your full name, address and date of birth, a statement saying that you declare a certain thing to be true and must also be signed with the date and place of signature added.

These documents are a standard part of the French legal and administrative landscape, but have become more commonplace during Covid where many everyday actions now require a déclaration sur l’honneur.
The attestation which was required to go out during lockdown (and is still required for trips out after curfew) is an example of a déclaration sur l’honneur – you are not required to provide proof that you are, for example, going to the supermarket since this would obviously be difficult to furnish, but by filling out the form and signing it (or clicking the box on the online version) you are making a sworn statement as to the purpose of your trip out.

But it’s not just Covid-related forms that require this declaration, you will often be asked for one by official bodies including the Pôle emploi (unemployment office), tax authorities or social security. If you are getting married or Pacsé (a civil partnership) you will be required to declare that you live together and there are no family ties between the two partners.
The declaration can also be used if you lack official documentation, for example if you don’t have house deeds, a rental contract, utility bills or other official means to prove your address you can ask your landlord to make a sworn declaration that you live in the address specified.
So what happens if you are discovered to have lied on a sworn statement?
Since this is an official document, you can be prosecuted if you are discovered to have lied on a déclaration sur l’honneur or to have produced a false declaration.
If you have used the false declaration in the context of tax or social security you would usually be prosecuted for tax or benefit fraud.
If you are found to have forged someone else’s signature on a déclaration sur l’honneur you can be prosecuted for forgery, which carries a maximum penalty of 3 years in prison and a €45,000 fine.
The maximum penalty for using or drawing up a false declaration is 1 year in prison and a fine of €15,000.
If the false declaration is prejudicial to another person or the public treasury (except in cases of tax fraud), the maximum penalty is 3 years’ imprisonment and a fine of €45 000.
