How to Stop After Effects from Crashing
Do you find that After Effects keeps crashing, shutting down, or failing to render or export? You’re not the only one. There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able just to get your project finished because After Effects keeps shutting down. There could be any number of reasons why this might be the case, so check out the troubleshooting tips below and bring some pleasure back into your workflow.
Top 8 Fixes to Stop Common After Effects Crashes
1. Update Your Software
This is an easy one. It takes no time or expertise at all to update your software, and it could be a perfect fix! The purpose of software updates is for developers to fix bugs and mistakes in their software. Adobe regularly releases updates to keep everything ticking over, and it may be that if your version is After Effects is out of date, you’re simply working with something Adobe has already fixed in an update. To do this:
2. Media and Disk Cache
If your media and disk cache is located on a slow drive with less than 10GB of space, you’ll probably be encountering some problems. One recommendation is to get a cheap SSD, the only purpose of which is to hold the scratch disk materials. If you don’t have one to hand, go into After Effects to make your system more stable.
Sometimes the scratch disk files can be corrupted, or there isn’t enough space to read or write to your drive. With this in mind, try deleting all of the scratch disk files.
While you’re here, try also purging your RAM.
This clears the memory and any corrupted disk cache files. Don’t worry—purging memory isn’t dangerous at all. The worst thing to happen is that After Effects just needs to process your timeline again. Think of it as a refresh.
3. Reserve RAM
Try programming your computer to push more resources towards After Effects. It’s a pretty intensive, hungry program, and it needs all the processing power it can get.
You want this number as low as possible, so the computer prioritizes After Effects when allocating RAM.
Even if this doesn’t fix any root problems, it will still boost the performance of After Effects overall.
4. Video Card Problems
This is where a lot of errors can occur when rendering, exporting, and overall system crashes. Depending on your system, you can actually use the video card to take the load off the CPU for some pretty hard-working tasks. But disabling some of these features lets you test whether or not that’s the root cause of any errors and crashes.
This will slow down the overall speed of the system, but it might also prevent crashes.
Trying some or all of these should help you narrow down the cause of any problems. But if you want to delve into fixing the GPU itself, there’s a simple place for you to start by updating your graphics card’s drivers.
First, you need to figure out what brand of GPU you’re using.
Go to Apple > About This Mac
Under Graphics, you should see your setup. But any updates should be included in your Software Update as a whole.
To do this on Windows:
Go to the Task Manager > Performance > GPU.
It’ll say what your brand of GPU is at the top of the window.

5. Crashing on Export
Is your project completed, and you’re just having trouble with the export? Well, forget about exporting in After Effects, and take it to Media Encoder instead.
This should give you a more stable render. Even if the render fails, it shouldn’t crash your entire system, which is a lot less frustrating and gives you a chance to figure out what else might be going wrong.
6. Third-Party Plugins
Third-party plugins can really help your workflow, but can also totally mess up your system. This is usually confounded by having different versions of After Effects running on your computer. If nothing else has worked for you so far, try this.
Navigate to this location (on a Mac):
Applications/Adobe After Effects
Or this location (on Windows):
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects \Support Files
This might be frustrating if you are using those plugins in your current project, but once the problem is resolved then you can use the plugins again. Sometimes a little re-jig will be enough to get your computer going!
7. After Effects Doesn’t Open
It’s pretty tricky troubleshooting problems if you can’t even get to the settings in the first place. If After Effects doesn’t open at all:
Sometimes if you have multiple versions of After Effects installed, your computer will try and take information from all of them at the same time. Renaming the older applications gives it a little more clarity.
You might come across a situation where that works the first time, but any subsequent attempts to open the application will fail. In that case, contact Adobe support.
8. The “Non-Tech” Solutions
Alright, so that’s the software-related issues out of the way, try some of these non-tech tips and tricks.

It doesn’t need the most top-of-the-range software to run smoothly. It’s more about making smart, strategic choices to make the most of your computer.

Текстом! 14 минут я смотреть не буду просто.
Заливка бетона в морозы с электопрогревом в 600 км от дома. В 1 ЧАСТИ: Копка, подбетонка, арматура, борьба со снегом.
Разберу все моменты по зимнему бетонированию на примере построенного мною промышленного здания в Тульской области для оборонного предприятия.
Размер: 18х36х4,6 м, 1 этаж, площадь: 648 м2.
Гидроизоляция из двух слоев
Копка котлована зимой
В целом все нормально. Конечно, важно выбрать не снежную неделю, и в идеале не крещенские морозы. За два дня котлован готов. Грунт был сложен сбоку. В дальнейшем заказчик сделает им планировку участка

Что следует знать о зимнем бетонировании, если вы делаете электропрогрев:
2. Приобретите градусник и антифриз. Градусник будете вставлять в скважины–трубки с незамерзающей жидкостью и каждые 2 ч. проверять температуру.
3. Ночное освещение. Работы могут производиться и ночью, да и зимой темнеет рано. А бетон требует высокой скорости производства работ.
5. Парогенератор, если снегопад им будете топить снег перед заливкой.
6. Спланированный график подачи бетона миксерами. Если объем большой, то процесс должен быть рассчитан по часам.
В итоге график один завод всё-таки нарушил. Некоторые водители захотели уехать домой пораньше и проявили инициативу, приехав на отгрузку раньше положенного срока, что в дальнейшем привело к образованию большой очереди из миксеров. Для справки: в такой мороз миксер не должен держать бетонную смесь более 2 часов. Но об этом позднее расскажу ниже, а пока приемка материалов.
Приемка щебня и песка, разравнивание под основание
Прием материала осуществляется равномерной, распределенной выгрузкой куч по всей площадке вырытого котлована.
* Произвелась засыпка и выравнивание основания котлована инертных материалов на 700 м2.
Затем уплотнение грунта катком. Каток – наиболее эффективный способ уплотнения любых инертных материалов. Выставляется опалубка для подбетонки.
Подготовка траншеи под опалубку для завивки подбетонки
Работа по устройству основания – подбетонки и ее дальнейшей заливкой, щебнем присыпали, чтобы пленку ветром не унесло.
Котлован полностью засыпан, выставлена и закреплена опалубка для бетонной подготовки. Настелена гидроизоляция в виде плёнки для того, чтобы жидкость не уходила из бетонного основания. Также пленку присыпали щебнем, чтобы не сдуло ветром до момента заливки.
Процесс заливки подбетонки, через бетононасос.
Котлован полностью засыпан, выставлена и закреплена опалубка для бетонной подготовки. Настелена гидроизоляция в виде плёнки для того, чтобы жидкость не уходила из бетонного основания. Также пленку присыпали щебнем, чтобы не сдуло ветром до момента заливки.
Работы закончены ночью. По периметру опалубки выставлены распорки. Это ещё не сам фундамент, лишь подготовка под него (подбетонка). Утром заливка. Используется бетон марки М100, по-другому В7,5.
Той же ночью идет приемка арматуры
Разбивка осей для закладных деталей колонн каркаса, изготовление элементов для пространственного каркаса, обвязка арматуры. Армирование основания первого слоя арматуры.
Перед заливкой с арматуры вытапливается весь снег. Сначала пробовали горелкой. Оказалось, очень долго. Потом привезли парогенератор, и дело пошло быстрее.

Всем привет! Хочу вам рассказать небольшую историю и показать, что всё возможно, если очень захотеть! Мне 34 года и сегодня ровно год как я работаю моушен-дизайнером в крупном информационном агентстве. Сейчас моя жизнь похожа на сказку: работаю на удаленке из дома, могу больше времени проводить с семьей. И удовольствие от того, что моя работа приносит только позитивные эмоции не сравнить ни с чем. Но пару лет назад всё было далеко не так безоблачно.
Восемь лет работал менеджером по продажам в различных российских компаниях, и в каждой обязательно была та самая СОВА. Как только появлялся “эффективный руководитель”, всё шло по одной схеме: изменения мотивации в худшую сторону, идиотские решения по крупным и средним клиентам, после которых те уходили к конкурентам; перекладывание на менеджера функционала маркетологов, юристов, склада и т.д. И, конечно же, куда же без кучи ненужной отчетности, которая забирала 50% рабочего времени.
То ли кризис среднего возраста, то ли потеря стрессоустойчивости в 32 года… я профессионально выгорел и больше не мог терпеть “эффективных менеджеров”. Дошло до того, что при знакомстве мог безошибочно определить, что представляет из себя человек передо мной, и какая будет судьба у компании через 3-4 месяца.
Остудить мою пятую точку помогало хобби, которым я занимался исключительно по вечерам, уже после того как укладывал ребенка спать. Включал Chillhop и копошился в After Effects и Premiere Pro, монтируя небольшие видосики с семейного отдыха, и, добавляя лайтовую графику. Очень кайфовал с этого.
В какой-то момент нарвался на подкасты ребят, которые брали интервью у моушен-дизайнеров, иллюстраторов, продюсеров и т.д. Так я открыл для себя новый мир CG индустрии. А самое главное, ко мне пришло понимание, что можно заниматься любимым делом, да еще и деньги за это получать. Так стартовал мой переход в другую сферу деятельности.
На протяжении двух лет мой распорядок дня был такой:
06:50 подъем на работу (до работы было ехать 1 час 40 минут)
19:40 я приезжал домой, разгружал жену и нянчился с ребенком
В пятницу вечером я проводил время с женой
В субботу и воскресенье мы вместе воспитывали ребенка, а вечером я опять садился за комп и всё по новой.
Естественно это очень сказалось на моем состоянии. Я похудел на 8 кг, возросла общая утомленность, физический и моральный износ. Но как ни странно, мотивация завершить ролик только росла и крепла с каждой оброненной тупой фразой или решением эффективного руководителя на работе.
Понимая, что сделанных проектов все еще недостаточно для портфолио, я решаю сделать небольшой мультфильм с персонажной анимацией, куда бы смог вложить всю боль, которую я чувствую, работая менеджером по продажам. Приступил я к нему 03.03.2019 году, нарисовал первые скетчи.
Итого я отправил примерно 44 отклика. Отправлял не только студии, но и в рекламные и информационные агентства, а также на телевидение. Стучался, как только появлялась новая вакансия. В итоге ответило мне 7 компаний, для которых я делал тестовые задание, из них был на пяти собеседований. Одно так и не состоялось, так как меня уже взяли на работу моей мечты. В другой не прошел по тестовому заданию. Приглашений выйти на работу я получил в трех компаниях из пяти, но там по ЗП я не проходил и отказался. Еще момент, на всех собеседований я дал себе слово говорить абсолютно честно что умею, а что не умею. Хотя, если бы стал себя продавать как менеджер, то уверен, устроился значительно раньше, но было страшно опозориться.
Сейчас по ЗП я вышел вровень того, как в среднем зарабатывал менеджером по продажам, но только на новом месте она еще и белая. У меня очень крутой руководитель отдела, который горой стоит за своих сотрудников. Внимательно относится к отдыху сотрудников, благодарит в отчетах за выполненные задания, оплачивает сверхурочную работу. Коллектив просто офигенный! Когда у меня днюха пришлась на период удаленной работы, мне прислали подарок домой. Я был в шоке просто! Сейчас до сих пор сидим на удаленке, ЗП не сократили, работы меньше не стало. Я очень дорожу тем, где я сейчас работаю. Нормализовался сон, привел в норму свой вес. Появилось время ходить в зал, водить ребенка в сад и на секцию, и проводить с ним больше времени.
Данный ролик доделывал уже в более щадящем режиме. Для себя решил, что больше не буду подобные проекты делать в одного. Лучше уж делать эвридейки на 15-30 секунд на разные тематики. Сейчас в планах немного помонтировать своих видосиков с отдыха, а после этого плотно заняться Cinema 4D, а то знания по ней очень поверхностные. В ролике в трех сценах применил 3д-графику. А дальше есть огромное желание идти в сторону геймдева, и более никогда не вспоминать про такую унылую профессию, как менеджер по продажам.
Очень надеюсь, что хоть какой-то процент из вас я смогу за мотивировать на то, чтобы начать новую ветку в своей жизни и поменять всё с ног на голову, чтобы в дальнейшем уже достойно жить и получать от работы огромное удовольствие.

Known issues in After Effects
This document provides information on the list of known issues in After Effects
The current version of After Effects (22.0) only supports Cinema 4D vR24 (installer included). However, the latest Cinema 4D vR25 is compatible with After Effects versions earlier than 22.0. If your workflow requires features only available in Cinema 4D R25, please use After Effects 2021 (version 18.4 or above). Support for R25-only features in After Effects 2022 will be available in a future update.
Other known issues
Workaround: Upgrade to MacOS 12 to fix this issue.

Workaround: Export the composition from the After Effects Render Queue using the new High Quality or High Quality with Alpha output module presets and import the resulting footage file into Media Encoder or Premiere Pro.

Issue: Use Display Color Management is not enabled by default when setting Project Working Space.
Workaround: When you set up your Color Managed project, select Use Display Color Management to enable it. This sets the state for this project, which remains persistent. But you need to do this for every Color Managed project you create.

Also, holding the Option/Alt key while dragging the current-time indicator in the Timeline panel does not prevent the Composition panel from updating while you drag, regardless of whether a 3D layer is in the composition.
(Mac) aerender renders files without the «ae_render_only_node.txt» in place but ends up leaving an aerendercore process running.
Workaround: It works properly when «ae_render_only_node.txt» is used.

Issue: The Edit Original command does not launch the external application such as Photoshop, and Illustrator on macOS if the file path contains non-ASCII characters such as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean characters. Also, the Create Reference Frame button in the Content-Aware Fill panel does not automatically launch Photoshop.
Workaround: Use any of the following workarounds:
Known issues with Content-Aware fill
Issue: On both Mac and Win, while generating a fill layer, CPU usage can exceed 100 percent.
Workaround: There is no known workaround for this issue.
Issue: When you have a team project open and you click the Generate Fill layer or Create Reference frame buttons, After Effects gives no results.
Known issues with Expression Editor
Workaround: Set tab width between 6 and 8 to minimize jumping.
