What is Cargo Tracking Note?
It is a certificate that is used mostly by West African countries. This document is called Cargo Tracking Note or CTN for short. It is also known as Bordereau de Suivi de Cargaison (BSC).
CTN Certificate is required for all type of sea shipments (Air shipments too in some countries). West African countries have reported on their official websites that this procedure is mandatory for customs clearance.
Some countries require BSC certificate, while some countries require certificates such as ECTN or BIETC. The name of this certificate may vary depending on the location of the country and the languages it uses. Overall, they are the same certificates.
Why do you need it?
Because after your shipment has reached its destination, the custom authorities will ask for a CTN certificate. And if your shipment is not covered by one, your cargo won’t be cleared.
If you want the shipment to reach the destination at the right time and without any problems, the cargo has to be accompanied by a CTN. We recommend that you do this before the departure.
We recommend that you finish the CTN process before arrival. Since in case of any delays about the CTN, parties have to pay demurrage charges. The amounts may vary depending on the country and the delay.

В Google Play и AppStore есть множество приложений, позволяющих отслеживать смартфон и передавать информацию о его местоположении. Но выбирать первое попавшееся не стоит: многие из них «заточены» под специальные задачи, например, для родительского контроля, а у некоторых заблокирован полезный функционал – для доступа к нему придётся оплатить дорогостоящую лицензию.

CMA CGM wishes to remind its customers that since November 2009, an Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN) certificate is to accompany all shipments to and from the Republic of Congo.
Once the ECTN has been granted, it will receive a Unique Registration Number (URN). This number should be endorsed on the Bill of Lading and is required by the Congolese Shipper Council when clearing the goods.
In order to avoid heavy penalties, please comply with this regulation.

BSC is one of the must have documents when exporting to Mali. It will save you a lot of effort, money and time at the destination port. Let me explain what BSC exactly is, then I will talk about the consequences of not having it.
What is BSC?
BSC, (Bordereau de Suivi des Cargaisons) as I said in the beginning, is a mandatory document. The port authorities will be asking for this document once your cargo is at the destination port. It was made mandatory, because it allows the authorities to identify, control, track and forecast the traffic of imported goods.
Next up is the part where I explain the consequences I was talking about, buckle up!
What will happen if you don’t have it?
First of all, you’ll be paying a fine up to $2500 since you don’t have the document. Secondly, your cargo won’t be cleared. Thus, it will be delayed. And on top of all that, you will be paying demurrage charges every single day until you have the document. Let me just say that your importer won’t be happy about all of this.
Now that you really understand the consequences, you might be asking how you can get one. I got you covered.
How you can obtain a BSC
I’d say this is the easiest part of the operation since we’ll be doing most of the work for you. Let me elaborate:
All you have to do is to email the soft copies of the necessary documents (which I will mention after this part). After that, a draft of the BSC document will be presented to you, so you can check if there is any part you want to be changed. And after approving the draft, you’ll be sent the validated BSC in 1-2 working days.
