Art Fight, что такое и для чего нужен
Итак, сегодня я расскажу вам о том, что такое Art Fight, почему он меня так привлёк и зачем я рекомендую в нём участвовать в следующем году.
Art Fight —
Art Fight
Attack Guide FAQ
1. I copied and pasted a character, but I gave them new outfits on each copy. Do they all count as full bodies?
If a character is copied and pasted, it only counts one time. All artwork must be original for each character instance to count. (Note that premade bases are not allowed!)
3. I made unique art for the thumbnails of my attacks, may I include this in my rating?
You may if the artwork is truly unique, meaning you have not used a base to make several thumbnails, and it contains nothing re-used from the attack itself. So if you drew the head of the character on the thumbnail, you may add a headshot to the ratings.
4. How do I rate a three-headed character?
Fullbody + 2 headshots.
5. What about extra limbs?
Usually this counts as the full character, so it is rated as a normal fullbody. Keep in mind features in unusual places may need a filter, see here for more information.
Drawings:
1. Is traditional art okay?
Yep! Traditional drawings are just as welcome as digital drawings.
2. Where can I find free art programs/software?
You can find a list of free art programs for computer, tablet or phone here.
3. How should I rate my attack if the background is unshaded, but the character is fully shaded?
Characters are the main focus of attacks. If a character ratings differ from the background, it is the characters ratings that should be counted when rating. In this case the attack would be rated fully shaded. If the background differs too much in quality, for example, the background is a sketch while the character is fully rendered, the background may be rated down to the “scene elements” background category.
4. I drew a piece with the binary pencil (pixel brush), does it count as pixel art?
A piece is not pixel art just because it’s drawn with a pixel brush. Pixel art has thought put into the placement of each pixel.
5. I spilled some color when making a traditional piece and tried my best to clean it up. Do I have to rate it as a rough color?
We are aware traditional art is a bit unforgiving and has no ctrl+z button. If the spills aren’t too severe and you did your best to correct the error, it can still count as clean color or painted if that was your intention. You can also ask a moderator for input. ♥
6. Is it okay to use mirroring or a symmetry tool? (The left and right side of the drawing are identical)
Yes.
1. How do I upload a 3D attack?
You can take a screenshot of the model or render an image via the program you are using. You can also search youtube for how to make a turntable video. (This will not count as animation unless the character itself is moving independently.)
2. Is it okay to use a base model for sculpting characters?
No, unfortunately this would create a loophole where people could make a standard face and only sculpt the hair and other details. So the sculpture must be freshly made by you each time.
3. Does using Paint 3D for Windows count as a 3D attack?
Yes.
4. What 3D programs are there? Are any free?
You can find a list of free 3D programs here.
5. May I use premade animations for my 3D model?
Yes, but it has to be free to use, credited, and you cannot rate your attack as an animation since you did not do the animation work yourself. (This also goes for re-using animations you have made yourself.)
6. Can I build a statue, construction or flat “pixel” block piece in Minecraft as a 3D attack?
Flat pixel block pieces that are 1-2 blocks in thickness can be made, but should be rated as Drawing with a Pixel finish. Other creations in minecraft that have a more 3D form (blocks extending in all directions) than flatness (one layer of blocks) can be rated as a 3D model, no texture, standard lighting, and no background.
7. Can I make a Minecraft skin and rate that as 3D?
Minecraft skins are not allowed as attacks as they are considered as using a base.
Crafts:
1. Can I submit a cosplay as an attack?
Yes! Cosplay goes under “Paintovers and Cosplay” now. Keep in mind you have to make at least one major part of the cosplay by hand. Just dressing up with clothing you have around will not count.
2. Can I submit doll or squishy paintovers as attacks?
Yes, as per 2021 there is now a category named “Paintovers and Cosplay”.
3. Can I rate my cut-out traditional drawing as papercraft?
It can only be rated as paper craft if there is a layering of multiple sheets of paper. A single sheet of paper with a drawing on it should be rated as drawing.
4. I made some attacks in the form of buttons, pins, badges, and keychains. Can I rate this as craft?
No, it should be rated as a drawing.
5. Can I rate my wood burning attack as craft?
No, it should be rated as a drawing.
6. I did a traditional painting on a canvas board/stretched canvas, should that be rated as craft?
No, traditional paintings of any medium should be rated as a drawing.
7. Can I mail the crafted attack to the one I attacked?
In the event someone wants to physically send their crafted/traditional attack, Art Fight does not condone or take responsibility for any shared personal info. Exchange of address happens at the person’s own risk. We do not recommend minors to give out their address without permission from a parent or guardian first.
8. Can I make an attack out of an aspect of a character or craft an item that belongs to a character? (For example DnD dice inspired by a character, or a bracelet belonging to a character.)
You can! As long as it resembles the character or is a belonging of the character. These kinds of attacks are usually rated as «Simple Shaped Character» for size.
9. What do I rate a 3D printed attack as?
If you modeled it in 3D, printed it, and didn’t do much more with it, you can rate it as 3D. If you painted or physically worked with it, you can rate it as Clay.
Animation:
1. My animation contains music or is too long to put into a gif, is there a way to submit it as a video?
Not currently. Though you may upload a still image or a shorter gif from the animation to the site and then link to a youtube video or other video service in the description of the attack. You can rate it based on the video and not the still/gif you uploaded.
2. What is an “unique frame”?
An unique frame is a frame that is completely different from other frames. In a frame-by-frame animation, an unique frame is a redrawn frame.
3. Can I add the animation check if only the background elements are animated and not the characters?
Yes, we now have a category named “Minor Animation / Animated Background”, which will cover this type of attack.
4. Can I add the animation check to my spinning 3D Model?
No. 3D turntables do not count for animation as the character itself is not animated.
Mass Attacks:
1. What is a mass attack?
A mass attack is an attack with a lot of characters in it. There is no strict definition of a mass attack; it’s a term created by the community over the years.
2. How do I post a mass attack?
You submit the attack as usual, but you can add an extra character with the “Add character” button. You can add up to 100 characters to an attack. Any more than 100 characters can not be added to your attack by the staff team, this is the absolute character count limit.
3. Since there is only one main recipient, how do I notify the other character owners that I included their character?
They will be automatically notified in their attack notifications! ♥
4. I made a mass attack containing characters from both teams. How will this affect the points?
If the main recipient (the one you wrote the username of) is on the opposite team, you will get points for all characters, regardless of their team. This also goes the other way, so if the main recipient is on the same team as you, the whole attack will count as friendly fire and give 20% of the full points.
Rules and Technicalities:
1. Can I use references?
Yes, as long as you do not directly trace or heavily reference someone else’s art. Heavy referencing is left up to moderator discretion; you are welcome to ask any moderator about specifics if you have questions.
2. Can I add a canon character to my attack?
For copyright infringement reasons, we do not allow attacks or characters with copyrighted media present. (You may mention a canon character in descriptions, but you may not request characters to be drawn with a canon character.)
3. Are photos allowed for backgrounds?
Yes, photos are allowed for backgrounds, but they must be rated as “no background” and the image needs to be credited to the original creator/photographer/copyright owner, even if you are the creator, or the attack may be removed by a moderator. Photo credits should be stated in the attack credits.
4. Can I do an attack where the character is cosplaying a canon character?
Full cosplay is not allowed, as this easily breaks copyright because of the outfit design, but elements of cosplay are allowed, such as a character’s shirt, glasses, etc. Some generic outfits or non-character-specific outfits like a Fallout character wearing a vault dweller jumpsuit or a Pokemon oc wearing a Team Skull grunt outfit are allowed.
5. I’m not sure if I should mark my attack as polished?
Polish can be used if you have spent extra time or effort on a piece, or if you simply are very happy with it and feel like it’s some of your better work.
6. How many of my attacks can I mark as “polished”?
As many as you want, as long as you feel like you’ve put in extra effort, extra time or are extra proud of the work. Moderators may check for misuse if you have rated a majority of your attacks as polished though. Otherwise we do not heavily police it, as it is subjective.
7. Can I make an attack that is literature/writing or a composed/music piece?
While you can not submit these as pure attacks, you can make a drawing / 3D model / craft, and then attach writing or composed music in the description of the attack. This definitely counts for polish!

Getting and switching teams is now easier
Rolling for a team via the button will still get you a random team, weighted towards the team that has the least fighters at the moment. BUT, you can now easily switch to your desired team during the event. You have 2 team switches. You can also become a spectator again at any time if you should not want to participate in the fight anymore while the event is still active. An alternative to becoming spectator is to hide all your characters. This way you keep your team color, but no one can attack you. Switching to spectator and back again does not use up a team switch. This means Administrators will NOT be doing team switches for any reasons this year, as the button can be used instead.
Friendly Fire now gives 20% of the full score instead of 0
We wanted to give a little boost to those who want to attack their fellow team-members, but in a way that would not get in the way of the competitiveness and spirit of the game. So we hope those of you who like to attack anyone in their way regardless of team will enjoy this one! The percentage may change next year, as this is a trial run!
The points will be higher this year!
We have upgraded the math of the point system! Expect higher scores! We also worked on balancing the points related to type and character amount. We hope you like the change! Keep in mind our point system will likely need some more tweaks the upcoming years, so nothing is set in stone. If you notice anything strange or have feedback, there will be a form at the end of the fight that you can fill out!
Animation ratings have been changed
This year we have added Animatics as a category! We have also changed up how to rate your Animation Type! The ratings now depend on how much of the character is animated. Characters can be added the amount of times they show up in different scenes, not counting recycled/re-used scenes. In addition, we now have an option for when only the background is animated. You can check out the changes here.
You will not see which team is in the lead the last 48 hours of the fight
As you know, staff take some days at the end of the fight to go through reports on the site and correct ratings so the team scores are correct. This is one of the reasons why we will be hiding the total team scores at the end of the fight for the last 48 hours, like we did last year. You will still be able to see individual scores of yourself and others, just not the bar that shows which team is in the lead. You can still make attacks, as the fight will still not be over yet! (The fight ends 1st of August 12pm MDT.)
Frequently Asked Questions
General
When is this Art Fight starting?
Art Fight will begin on July 1st!! It starts on this date every year unless other info is stated.
How do I join a team?
There is a button labeled «Current Event» in the top right corner next to your username. If an event is currently running, there will be another button to “Get Sorted”. This will put you on a random team. You then have 2 team switches.
You can also become a spectator again at any time if you should not want to participate in the fight anymore while the event is still active. An alternative to becoming spectator is to hide all your characters. This way you keep your team color, but no one can attack you. Switching to spectator and back again does not use up a team switch.
Some years there is also an «early bird» google form you can fill out right before the fight starts that allows you to pick the team you want. The form can usually be found in a newspost and in the announcement channel of the discord server. If you fill out the form, you will automatically be assigned to that team when the fight starts. (Please make sure you read the instructions carefully, or the process may not work because of missing information.)
Can anyone still join?
Anyone can join at any time, and can still participate in any event that is currently active. Also, you can upload characters all year round.
How long will Art Fight last?
The fight lasts for about one month each year.
What do the different colored usernames mean?
The different colors represent the different teams. The grey usernames are «spectators» which means they are not on a team and thus cannot be attacked when the fight is ongoing. The two other colors represent the fighting teams. When teams are released, team colors will be apparent.
Do I have to use the themes in my attacks or uploaded characters?
The themes are just for fun and to more easily tell apart the teams. You are not required to use the themes in your attacks or uploaded characters, it is completely up to you.
Can I change my username?
All users are granted one free username change when they make an account, and will receive another name change every year on January 1st. Additional name changes can be earned by making donations. To change your username and view more information regarding this, please visit the ‘Change Username’ section in your settings.
How can I switch teams?
On the Event Page, you may click to become a Spectator again. This will give you the option to roll again to try and get on your desired team.
What if I used up all my Team Switches?
You have 2 team switches after you have gotten on a team. It is not possible to be granted more. If you use up all of your team switch attempts on accident due to the site being slow at the 1st of July, you may contact a staff member from the Contact Us page and ask for a manual team switch.
How do I block someone?
You can block someone by hitting the block button on their profile. When you click it, a window pops up that explains what you are about to do. Blocking someone will:
— Make the user not able to contact you through messaging, comments, attacks, and pings.
— Make the user unable to submit attacks containing your characters.
— If the user is following you, they will be removed from your followers list and cannot follow you, and vice versa.
— The user will not be able to view the content of your profile.
— The user will not be notified of the block.
Please note that there may be some delay to the visibility part of the block feature at the moment. The person should be unable to see your profile within 24 hours. The other effects will happen immediately after you press the block button.
Can I deactivate my account or make a new one?
If you would like to learn about how to deactivate your account, please read the privacy policy. Please note that our ToS forbids anyone to have more than one account, so please request deletion for any extra accounts.
I forgot my credentials, can I make a new account?
If you forgot your credentials, like your username and email, we urge you to contact us via [email protected] We will be able to assist you in recovering your account there.
I don’t like my attacks, can I delete them?
We currently don’t allow attack deletion off-season, but are working towards it. However, if you don’t like an attack, you can change the thumbnail to something else as an easy solution. An example is this!
How can I volunteer for Art Fight?
We announce when we are accepting new volunteer applications. They will be announced via the news page. Keep in mind you must be at least 18 years old to apply and have participated in at least one Art Fight event (minigames do not count). You must also be on the Art Fight discord server, and be relatively active on both server and on site. Familiarity with rules, filters, and attack categories is also a bonus!
Can I contribute to the event without creating art?
Take a look at the Rate Attacks page where you can choose to give bonus points to randomly chosen attacks.
Donations
Where does money from donations go?
Any donations given are put towards the domain name, server hosting, and other website expenses of Art Fight. Once basic expenses are covered, money goes towards development. You can see more information about where the money goes here.
How do I become a Supporter?
You obtain Supporter status by donating to Art Fight! This process is now automatic, and you will be getting your perks shortly after donating. Your username should automatically be filled in from the donation page, but please input your discord ID if you want your perks in the discord server too. If you have not received your discord perks 48 hours after donating, please contact a mod here.

Text Entry
Can I use HTML here?
No, but you can use BBCode. We have a BBCode guide all set up for your convenience!
Characters
Is it okay if I submit a character from an existing piece of media? Or my headcanon, alternate universe version of them?
Fan characters are allowed. However, you need to give credit to the original artist/media inspiration for said character in the description of the character. Do not directly copy characters from any media. Alternate universe characters must be immediately visually recognizable as creatively different from their original appearance to be accepted on Art Fight. Please also include credit to the original inspiration as well.
Can I submit my real life pet, or myself, as a character?
Yes! However, please be aware of the risks in posting pictures of yourself online. Minors may not share pictures of themselves, as this is unsafe.
Can I have two or more characters in one character slot?
Yes! If someone attacks you, they can put input the character ID a number of times that represent how many of the characters are in the attack. You should also keep in mind that there is currently no way to «move» attacks made on a character onto another character slot if you should later decide to separate the characters into their own character slots.
Is there a limit to how many characters I can submit?
As of June 2021, there is a character limit of 100 characters. We suggest uploading the characters you most want art of. You can also upload your main characters and a spare «character» (or more than one if you want to do categories) that links to a list of the rest (such as on toyhou.se) in the description. People can then attack that spare character in place of the rest of your characters. You may exceed the 100 characters limit by using our «archive» feature, which will archive the character’s name and attacks.
Can I rearrange my characters after uploading them?
Yes! We have added the ability to rearrange your characters. The higher the number you use, the closer to the beginning your character will be. You can also drag and drop the characters to change their order (note that numbers will reset if you do this).
Can I edit characters after submitting them?
Yes, character profiles can be edited at any time.
Is there a way I can save characters I would like to draw later?
You can use the bookmarking feature on the top right of a character’s profile to bookmark it for later. This will not notify the artist so you can keep your attack a surprise. Bookmarks are saved under your profile dropdown on its own page.
Why do male nipples require a censor/filter?
Due to United States law, we are obligated to enforce the censoring of female nipples to minors. To stand strongly against sexism and avoid problems around characters of non-binary genders, we have decided that all nipples must be censored on Art Fight, regardless of gender.
Attacks
Are we allowed to include characters in our attacks that do not belong to us or the person we are attacking? (Couple partner, Friends, etc.)
While you do not need permission if the character is registered on Art Fight, characters that are off the site must have explicit permission from the character’s owner that it is okay to include their character. Please have proof you had gotten permission with a screenshot just to be safe.
What is «friendly fire»?
Friendly fire is when you attack someone from the same team as you. This gives 20% of the full points, but the art will make someone happy nonetheless. ♥
Can I attack more than one person in one attack?
Yes, this is called a «mass attack». Just add the characters of the people you have included in your attack. Though only the main person you entered the username of will be able to revenge it. (With our current system.) You will get points for all characters included, no matter the team they are on, if the main recipient is from the opposite team. If the main recipient is from the same team as you, you will get 20% of the full points, as this counts as friendly fire.
Is there a limit to how many characters I can include in an attack?
Yes, in the 2021 fight an upper limit of 100 characters per attack is introduced. This is to lessen the strain on moderators.
Is there a limit to how many attacks I can make?
You can make as many unique attacks as you want! There is even a special mention of the person from each team who made the most attacks when the winner team is announced!
Why can’t I edit my attack rating?
You are prevented from editing attack ratings to preserve the correct score. If you believe you have made a mistake when you submitted your attack, you can delete the attack and repost it with the correct rating. If the attack has already gotten comments and you don’t want it deleted for this reason, please contact a site moderator who will help you change your ratings.
Known Bugs
Why is it giving me an error that says either “image field required” or “Oops, something went wrong!” when trying to upload an image?
The maximum image file size you can upload is 5MB. As long as you did in fact submit an image file, the «image field required» error happens when your image is somewhat over 5MB, and the «Oops, something went wrong!» error happens when your image is very large compared to the 5MB limit.
What do I do if my icon isn’t updating after I changed it?
Try doing a hard refresh with either Ctrl+F5 (Windows) or ⌘+Shift+R (Mac) or clearing your cache. If nothing has changed after doing this, wait up to 24 hours for the changes to show on your end. Another way to check is to ask someone else to visit your page and see if the changes have applied on their end.
